When I was in middle school, I learned more about careers. I had workshops and guest speakers come in and talk about what they did for a living. It was since then that I learned about lawyers and ever since then I made the decision to become a lawyer. I want to become an immigration lawyer because I have seen cases in where there has been injustices made. So I want to be a lawyer that makes the right decision and helps those in need, an honest lawyer that is.
My educational goal is to finish my general education at the JC and then transfer to a 4-year to continue my studies. Hopefully by then I will have some experience in a law office. I plan to go off to law school and receive my law degree and maybe even be able to open my own law office.
Entering English 100, I want to learn how to use better grammar and especially be able to improve my essay writing. I want to improve my writing so its more professional then slacking the skills need for it. I usually like to get ahead to get ahead on work that would take much of my time. But I also pace myself by doing a little one day and some more the other day.
One thing you should all know about me is that I'm a new mom. Most people would have dropped out or took a semester off but not me. I graduated high school and now I'm continuing my education. My daughter's name is Nevaeh and she's a beautiful 2 month year old baby. I want people to see me and be surprised because I made the choice to not slack off. My motivation is my daughter because i want to give her a good life and future. I want her to know that I kept going and I want to be a good role model.
Hi Xochilt,
ReplyDeleteYou must be busy with a two-month old! I took classes soon after I had both of my daughters. I tended to work a lot while they were sleeping, but it meant I didn't get much rest.
Neveah is a beautiful name. She must bring you joy, and it sounds like she inspires you.
I love that your career aspirations are based on your lived experiences and observations. It seems like you want to make a difference and to fix a problem you've witnessed.
Do you have 4-year schools in mind?
I'm looking forward to working with you this semester.
Take care,
Lauren
Hi Xochilt,
ReplyDeleteI remember that I wanted become a lawyer like way back in middle school as well, but then someone told me that i had to know all about the government and everything and till this day its not my favorite subject. I never understood it so i gave up, but i commend you on going through with this because we need more respected lawyers in this world. I hope you keep your dream alive and walk that stage and become a lawyer.
Your story is amazing, your daughter is going to be so proud of you. Not a lot of moms can say that after they had the baby they did everything and anything to keep their dreams alive, and want to make a better future for you and your child. I hope you keep going because it is women like you who motivate me.
I also have a new baby. My daughter will be 6 weeks old on Sunday. Congratulations on the new baby! I like your daughter's name. My 3 and a half year old's name is Ylnevaeh, the "y" is pronounced like an "i", but everybody calls her Elle. Good luck with your classes this semester and with accomplish your dream of becomming a lawyer.
ReplyDeleteHi Xochilt,
ReplyDeletethats great that you want to become a lawyer. It's alot of work but I'm sure its all worth it in the end. It takes hard work and believing in yourself.
It's funny how we're here and we can all agree we want to be better at spelling and grammar. It is an important skill especially when your in profession.
Good luck and take care,
Susie
Hello Xochilt! I love your name it is very unique and it reminds me of this beautiful place in México called Xochimilco. The career that you chose sounds very interesting, especially because you want to help immigrants! I am an immigrant myself and I do know of many cases were they have suffered injustices! I Wish you luck on this semester!
